How to Make a Floating Apple Candle Votive

These homey floating candle apple votives invoke the spirit of the holidays with subtle glow and endless charm. Float these in bowls of water on tabletops or fill up a wide steel tub reminiscent of an old fashioned apple bob.

  • Apples
  • Tea lights
  • Utility knife
  • Fine tipped marker
  • Lemon juice
  • Decorative bowl or bucket filled with water.

Instructions

    • 1

      Place each apple in the water to see how it floats. After testing the flotation of each apple, mark the top side with a dot with the marker.

      Place a tea light candle over the center of the dot and trace the outline of the candle.

      Using a utility knife, carve the marked area approximately as deep as the candle is tall. Scoop the fruit from the carved area and smooth and even out the bottom and sides.

      Rub lemon juice into the cut area of the apple to keep it from browning. Place the tea light in the carved space and place the whole apple in the water. Light the candle.
