Take the side of the flag with the stripes and fold it toward the upper part of the flag. The upper part of the American flag is the part with the stars. Fold the flag in half again, the same way so that the field of stars is again on the top.

Clasp the striped end of the American flag and fold it upwards into a triangle. The long side of the triangle should face the field of stars. Take the pointed end and fold it down. Take the corner at the bottom of the striped end and fold it up. Repeat this process, alternating corners as you go. Keep folding until you end with only the field of stars showing. There should be a folded triangle of stars on the right and a square of stars on the left. The base of the triangle should be on the lower portion of the flag.
