How To Become A Realtor In Maryland

  • Complete your education. The state of Maryland requires that you complete a 60 hours of a pre-license class. They will also accept any approved college course taken in the subject of real estate.

  • Take the real estate exam. The real estate exam is given every day (Monday-Friday) at specific testing centers located in various places in Maryland. The exam is only two hours long. There is a fee each time you take the exam.

  • Apply for license. After you pass the real estate exam, you must apply for your license. For a license to be issued to you, you must have a signed letter of intent that secures a position for you with an agency.

  • Join the association. To legally use the official title of REALTOR, you must join the Maryland Association of Realtors.

  • Renew. Real estate agent licenses expire every two years. To renew your license, you will be required to attend up to 15 hours of continuing education courses.
