How to Make a Winter Window Scene
This easy craft is a quick way to dress up your windows for the holidays or just to celebrate the coming winter. Even if you live in a balmy climate, these snowflakes will never melt and will bring you a beautiful white Christmas. Even better, they can be removed with a flick of a fingernail when spring comes. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- Doilies
- Scissors
- Rubber cement
- Black construction paper
- Orange construction paper
Instructions

1
Fold a doily once, twice or three times. The more you fold it, the harder it will be to cut, but the more elaborate your snowflake will be when you are done.
-
2
Cut designs in the doily. You can follow the lace designs already in the doily, or you can create your own unique design by cutting out interesting shapes along the folded edges.
-
-
3
Unfold the doily. You will see that you have created a beautiful, lacy snowflake. You should create a large number of them for your winter scene.
-
4
Cut out a black hat shape and an orange triangle shape from construction paper. This will be the hat and nose on a snowman. If you like, you can cut out round circles to be a mouth and eyes for the snowman, but they may not show up very well. For this project, silhouettes are better.
-
5
Glue three uncut doilies near the bottom of the window. Use small dots of rubber cement to hold them on the window. Place the hat on top of the top doily, and the nose in the middle of the top doily.
-
6
Dab a small amount of rubber cement on the window wherever you want to glue the doily snowflakes. You can press the snowflakes onto these dots and they will stick firmly.
-
7
Use more dabs of rubber cement to hold down the edges of your snowflakes. They will look particularly lovely when viewed from outside when the room behind the windows is lit.

Tips & Warnings
To remove the snowflakes, just peel them off with a fingernail. The glue and doily will come away together.
Always use rubber cement in a well ventilated room.
