How to Organize a Home For Christmas

If you don’t get your home organized ahead of time, Christmas can be stressful. Some people get so overwhelmed by the prospect of having to get everything ready that they procrastinate and do it all last-minute. Don’t let Christmas be nerve-racking. It should be a time of happiness and excitement. Getting things in order for Christmas can be quite easy with a little planning and a bit of your time. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Go through all of your clothes and get rid of what you don’t want. Many people get clothing for the holidays, or they just buy it for themselves during the sales. Instead of shoving more clothes into already stuffed closets and drawers, go through your clothing and donate or sell anything that you are no longer interested in keeping.

    • 2

Clean out your refrigerator, pantry and kitchen cabinets. Chances are you’re going to have quite a bit more food in your home than normal. If you clean out your kitchen, you can get rid of bad and expired food to make room for the new items coming in.

    • 3

Put all of your Christmas gifts and supplies in one place. There is no point in buying Christmas gifts for other people if you can’t find them. If you have your wrapping paper, bows and all of your other supplies with your gifts, then it’s much more convenient than having to run all over to find it.

    • 4

Stock up for unexpected guests who may come to your home. For guests that are staying over, have small toiletry items that they can use. If you know that you are going to have guests visiting, make sure you have food items that you can make quickly. Also, make sure to have small gifts on hand that you can give.

    • 5

Go through your entertainment items including your books, DVDs and CDs. They can take up quite a bit of room, especially after accumulating them for so long. Chances are you may end up picking some new items for yourself during the holiday season or receive them as gifts. Donate or sell the ones that you no longer want and make room for the new ones.

Tips & Warnings

  • Use the holidays as an excuse to get your home in order. If you haven’t used an item in years, it may be time for you to get rid of it.
