Step 1
Use a universal knife sharpener, like the Global Minosharp knife sharpener. It contains two slots that you pass your blade through.
-
Step 2
Simply run your knife through the first slot for a couple of passes. This first slot has a more course grit that removes any major dings or nicks on your blade.
-
Step 3
Run your knife in the second slot which contains a finer grit to make a more exact edge. Wipe your blade clean before using on food.
-
Step 4
Purchase a diamond sharpening steel rod, if you want to use a one-step sharpening device. They are usually more expensive, but easier to use.
-
Step 5
To use a diamond sharpener rod, take the rod and hold the handle so the steel is pointing away from your body--at a perpendicular angle.
-
Step 6
With the blade of the knife facing your body, rest it on the steel rod on an angle. Run the blade of the knife down the the base of the rod with a sweeping motion. Repeat this action on each side.
