Monsters are meant to be scary, but children like to think that there might be some friendly monsters out there as well. Children can create both scary and friendly monsters on a shrinky dink sheet and decorate their rooms for Halloween or just for fun.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Shrinky dink sheets
  • Cookie sheet
  • Pencil crayons
  1. Step 1

Purchase a set of shrinky dink sheets at your local craft store or online (see Resources below).

  2. Step 2

Set your shrinky dink sheet on the table. Flip it so that the rough side is facing you.

  3. Step 3

Use a black pencil crayon to draw the outline of a monster. Your shrinky dink sheet will fit four monsters. You can make a monster family, or create versions from movies such as "Monsters, Inc."

  4. Step 4

Color your monster in with pencil crayons. Friendly monsters will have more bright colors, while scary monsters will be created with mostly dark colors.

  5. Step 5

Cut your monsters out. Be careful to leave a space all the way around the monsters so they have room to shrink.

  6. Step 6

Place monsters 1 inch apart on a baking sheet.

  7. Step 7

Preheat the oven to 325 degrees F.

  8. Step 8

Put the monsters in the oven and use a timer to count down 1 minute.

  9. Step 9

Remove the monsters from the oven and give them some time to cool off.

Tips & Warnings
  • Punch a hole in your monster with a hole puncher. Then thread a piece of string through the hole and tie to form a necklace.
  • Cut a strip of magnet to stick on the back of your monster. Decorate your refrigerator with it.
  • Watch your shrinky dink in the oven at all times. It can burn in less than 2 seconds.
