Some of the main characters in the Thanksgiving story are the Pilgrims. The Pilgrims learned how to survive off of the land from the Indians and then held a joint dinner with them to celebrate. Your child can create their own Pilgrim on a shrinky dink sheet.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Shrinky dink sheets
  • Cookie sheet
  • Pencil crayons
  1. Step 1

Purchase a set of shrinky dink sheets either at a craft store (call ahead, as some do not carry these) or online (see Resources below).

  2. Step 2

Use the rough side of the shrinky dink sheet when you are ready to begin. The smooth side should be placed up against your table top.

  3. Step 3

Use a black pencil crayon to draw the outline of your Pilgrim. Don't forget to make the Pilgrim bigger than you really want it.

  4. Step 4

Color your Pilgrim in with pencil crayons. You can create more than one Pilgrim, as each shrinky dink sheet will hold about four Pilgrims (you can make an entire Pilgrim family!).

  5. Step 5

Cut out the Pilgrims with scissors. Leave a clear space around the edges of the Pilgrims to give them some room to shrink.

  6. Step 6

Put your Pilgrims on a cookie sheet in a row. Don't let them touch because they can melt together.

  7. Step 7

Turn your oven to 325 degrees F.

  8. Step 8

Put the cookie sheet in the heated oven and begin timing out 60 seconds.

  9. Step 9

Remove the cookie sheet and cool.

Tips & Warnings
  • Punch a hole in your Pilgrim with a hole puncher, then thread a piece of string through the hole and tie to form a necklace.
  • Cut a strip of magnet to stick on the back of your Pilgrim and decorate your refrigerator with it.
  • Watch your shrinky dink in the oven at all times. It can burn in less than 2 seconds.
