Thousands of people attend the annual Oktoberfest celebration in Panama City, Florida. Imagine celebrating as if you were really in Germany, complete with food and events reminiscent of the real thing. If you plan to join the Oktoberfest celebration in Florida, here are a few ideas to get yourself started on an old world Germany festival of events.

1. Know when and how to get there. The Oktoberfest celebration is held once a year in downtown Panama City, Florida. Just take a trip down to the city marina area, which you can access from Harrison Avenue. The festival is held on Grace Avenue and is on October 3 and 4 of each year.

2. Choose from various activities and events, such as listening to the polka band or trying out some German beer and sausage. There are activities for children and carnival rides for both kids and adults. The festival is more family friendly in the daytime and a bit more adult by evening time.

3. Find out the schedule of events. The festival is held from 4 p.m. untill 10 p.m. on Friday, October 3, and from 11 a.m. until 10 p.m. on Saturday, October 4. Visit the event's website for a full list of scheduled events (see Resources below).

4. Bring your wallet. Not only can you buy authentic German food while at Oktoberfest, you will also have the option of shopping from the various vendors located at the festival. These are vendors selling German memorabilia and a multitude of German items from sellers such as Old Towne and Cameron. Most vendors will take credit cards, but it wouldn’t be a bad idea to take cash with you to make transactions faster and more efficient.

5. Enjoy yourself. Learn about the German heritage and Oktoberfest history. Mingle and meet new friends and savor tasty German food and beer. It’s a celebration of fun for the whole family.
