Facial hair can be unsightly, especially for women who prefer to have smooth, hairless faces. If you have unwanted facial hair, there are options to getting it removed. Some hair removal options are only temporary and will need to be repeated often, but there are a few options that will permanently remove unwanted facial hair.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Tweezers
  • Wax kits
  • Razor and shave gel
  1. Step 1

Tweeze the hairs on your face. If you only get a few hairs on your face, tweezing may be a good option for facial hair removal. Pull the skin tightly where the hair is and use the tweezers to pull the stray hairs out of your face.

  2. Step 2

Use wax strips to remove the facial hair. Waxing facial hair can be done at home or done professionally. For the best results, have it done professionally the first time so you can see how it is done. Waxing facial hair removes the hair for up to a month. There may be some discomfort, depending on the amount of facial hair to be removed and your skin’s sensitivity (see Resources below).

  3. Step 3

Have electrolysis done to remove the hair. This hair removal process uses electrical depilation to remove unwanted hair. When this procedure is done correctly, the hair follicles are damaged and the hairs are unable to grow back. Be sure to go to a licensed electrologist to ensure the procedure is done correctly. Things to consider before undergoing this procedure are the type of hair being removed, the condition of your skin, the costs and the pain factor (see Resources below).

  4. Step 4

Consult a doctor about laser hair removal. Note that laser removal carries risks and is not always the recommended method of hair removal for people of color due to the amount of melanin in the skin. Laser hair removal usually requires a certain amount of sessions to completely remove the hair but once the sessions are complete, the hair removal is supposed to be permanent (see Resources below).

  5. Step 5

Shave the hair off of your face. The downside to this method is that the hair will usually grow back quicker as opposed to the other methods. Shaving hair also tends to make it grow back fuller and thicker, which is not ideal for getting rid of facial hair. When shaving your face, lather the area to be shaved with a shaving cream for your skin type and use a new razor with a sharp blade (or use an electric shaver). If you get shave bumps, use an aftershave lotion or an aloe based lotion or gel to help minimize the bumps from shaving.
