Myspace originated in late 2003, and by 2006 had become the most popular social networking website on the entire Internet. Even 5 years after Myspace's inception, it still attracts 230,000 new users every single day. These facts beg to reason that there are a large portion of internet users that have a Myspace account, but oftentimes there is a need to delete a Myspace account. Whether you are just tired of social networking, or your child is too young to have a Myspace, following a few simple steps will have the Myspace account deleted within two days.

Cancel a Myspace Account with Valid Email

  1. Step 1

Open the Internet browser on your computer. Once you get to the Myspace website, sign in with the email address and password that you used when you registered.

  2. Step 2

Look to the top left of your home page. The home page should come up after you sign into Myspace (sometimes following an advertisement). At the top left, even if using the new Myspace home skin, should have a link that reads "My Account." Click on this link.

  3. Step 3

Look at the line of links that come up on the page that opens when you click "My Account." The links will include "Contact Info," "Account," and "Password." Click on the "Account Link." Scroll down to the bottom of the next page that pops up. Under the "Account Cancellation" section will be a link that says "Cancel Account," click on this link.

  4. Step 4

Look under the "Confirm Account Cancellation" section on the page that comes up. Click the "Cancel My Account" button. On the page that comes up, you have the option to let Myspace know why you're canceling your account. You can skip this part if you wish and click the "Cancel My Account" button. Even if you enter comments as to why you're leaving Myspace, click the "Cancel My Account" button afterward.

  5. Step 5

Open a new window in your internet browser and enter the address of your email provider into the address bar (Hotmail, Yahoo). Sign into your email account and check for new messages. Open the message that says "MySpace account cancellation request - please confirm" (this may be condensed).

  6. Step 6

Click on the link contained within the email. This will take you to a new page that will once again have the buttons that say "Keep My Account" or "Cancel My Account." Click on the "Cancel My Account" button once again. Your Myspace account will be canceled within the next 48 hours so that you will no longer be able to login or be viewed by others.

  7. Cancel a Myspace Account without a Valid Email

  8. Step 1

Follow Steps 1 through 4 as presented above. After completing Step 4, go to the top of the Myspace homepage and place the mouse cursor over the "Profile" link. Go down to the "Edit Profile" link and click it.

  9. Step 2

Go through all of the sections (About Me, Heroes, Books, etc.) and delete all of the information inside of them. When finished, go to the "About Me" section and type in "PLEASE REMOVE."

  10. Step 3

Go to your email provider's website and sign in. Click the link on the page that allows you to compose a new message and type parentcare@myspace.com. In the body of the email, request that Myspace remove the account because of the fact that the cancellation email was never received. This also works if you have taken control of your child's website and do not wish for them to be on Myspace anymore.

Tips & Warnings
  • Save important pictures on your account before deleting.
  • Let your friends know you'll be deleting your account.
  • If opening a new account, inform your friends what email you'll be using for the new account so they can re-add you to their list.
  • Remember that once you delete your account, it is no longer possible to view any messages, contact friends, or view pictures that you had saved on Myspace. This being the case, ensure that you save everything you find valuable before deleting your profile.
