How to Make a Plastic Canvas Tissue Box Cover

Tissue box covers can be made to blend in with the decor of a room or to reflect the season. You can make covers for any size tissue box. A plastic canvas crafter can find patterns for holidays, men, baby and children's rooms along with floral patterns. A simple cover can be made with one primary color in a filler stitch to be decorated by plastic canvas creatures, nativity or floral pieces made separately and attached to the stitched form with tacking stitches.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the tissue box sides and top. Write down the measurements then measure and mark the plastic canvas. Cut out the 4 sides and 1 top piece from plastic canvas.

    • 2

Count the holes to make sure that the top piece matches the top sides of the 4 side pieces. Make sure the side pieces have the exact same count of holes as the other matching sides. The standard piece of plastic canvas has 7 holes per inch unless labeled otherwise.

    • 3

Draw in the opening of the top of the box where tissues will be pulled through. You can use the cardboard piece that is torn from a new box as a pattern or measure the size opening you prefer. Cut the center out.

    • 4

Thread needle with yarn and stitch all 5 pieces with continental stitch or stitch from a pattern that is based on a design with instructions from a kit, craft article or magazine. You can also make your own design.

    • 5

When you have all five pieces stitched with your chosen design join the sides and top together with whip stitching.

Tips & Warnings

  • Make sure to count the holes to keep the cover even.
