Begin by threading the cloth tail through the rings, then place the sling around your neck. Decide on which side the baby will be, and place the rings on the opposite shoulder. Pull the other arm over the cloth, so that the sling is situated like a purse you wear across your body.

Hold the baby up in front of you, then slide him down between you and the sling. How you proceed next will be determined by the position you would like to put your baby in.

The snuggle position is great for newborns, sleeping babies or toddlers who need a cuddle. To use a baby sling in this position, after sliding the baby between you and the sling, position her directly in front of your chest and make sure the sling cloth is spread out to cover her from the top of her legs up to her shoulders. Then pull the tail to tighten the sling until she is securely attached.

The kangaroo hold is perfect for older babies who are anxious to look out at the world and be a part of what is going on. For this position, hold your baby facing away from you as you slide him down into the sling. Grasp the cloth at the bottom of the sling and pull it up around the back, making sure that the cloth in front is still in place, so that he is sitting in the sling as if it were a hammock. Carefully position his little legs to cross in front of him, then pull the tail tightly until he is secure.

The cradle hold is the most common way to use a baby sling when nursing. This hold makes it easy to nurse discreetly and comfortably in any setting. Simply cradle your baby in the arm opposite the side where the rings are positioned, and slide the baby into the side of the sling until she is all the way in and her head is resting comfortably on your arm.

The hip carry is the most common way to use a baby sling with an older baby or toddler. Pick up your baby and sit him on the hip opposite the side where the rings are positioned. Then pull the sling cloth up to his upper back, and place the bottom of the cloth just under his knees, allowing his legs to be free. This allows you to carry him on your hip, hands-free.

    Tips & Warnings

    • Always make sure your sling is tightened correctly to make sure your baby does not slip.

    • Do not bend over when wearing a sling or your baby could fall, always squat.

    • Do not wear your baby in a sling near the stove.
