How to Get Rid of Stomach Freckles

Save

Freckles are caused by sun exposure. The sun’s rays react with melanin in the skin, thereby producing the brown spots. Whereas some people tan as a result of the melanin’s reaction, certain individuals simply freckle. Any area of the body that is exposed to the sun has the potential to freckle, including the stomach. Since stomachs aren’t generally exposed to sunlight as much as other body areas, the freckles there tend to be lighter and fade more easily.

Things You'll Need

  • Shirts
  • Sunscreen
  • Vitamin C lotion
  • Retin-A cream
  • Cover your stomach. In order to prevent your freckles from darkening and new freckles from forming, you must keep your stomach out of the sun. Opt for shirts that provide full coverage, preferably ones that are UV-resistant.

  • Wear sunscreen on your stomach. If your stomach must be exposed to the sun's rays, opt for a solid sunscreen with a high SPF rating. Choose one that protects against UVA and UVB rays for maximum coverage.

  • Apply a vitamin C lotion to your stomach. When applied to the skin, vitamin C has been shown to even out skin tones, fade freckles and provide an overall brightening effect. With regular application, your stomach freckles will become less apparent.

  • Talk to your dermatologist about Retin-A creams. Retin-A encourages skin cell regeneration so new skin cells are produced more rapidly to replace the older, sun-damaged cells. You must have a doctor's prescription in order to get Retin-A creams.

  • Consider laser treatments on your stomach. The laser light will target the darker pigment in your freckles and effectively break them up. With a series of treatments, your stomach freckles can be completely removed.

  • Consider microdermabrasion. A licensed technician will essentially buff away the top layers of your skin with a specially designed device. Following a session, your skin will be raw and pink but after it heals, your freckles will be less noticeable.

Tips & Warnings

  • Over-the-counter fading creams are available that can gradually fade freckles.
  • Laser treatments can be quite painful and expensive.
  • Your skin will be very sensitive following laser and microdermabrasion treatments.
