How to Make a Marshmallow Santa

Marshmallow santas are great for decorating the Christmas tree.

These cute little marshmallow Santas are a great kids activity for a Christmas party or a fun trimming to tie on presents for teachers and relatives from kids. They can be hung on the tree--out of reach of hungry pets of course--and enjoyed all season long. Just make sure that while you are making them you do not eat the marshmallows that have already been decorated.

Things You'll Need

• Large marshmallows
• Craft glue
• Magic markers
• Foam Christmas tree
• Red pipecleaners
• White pompoms
• Red construction paper

Instructions

1. Color Santa's head and body. The body will be one marshmallow, and should be colored with red and black to show Santa's suit. Any parts that should be white just leave white. You can easily color on marshmallows as long as you do not bear down too hard with the point of the marker. Santa's head will need a smiling face, usually done with a black magic marker.

2. Cut out a base for the ornament if you want it to stand up, and a Santa hat out of the red construction paper. The base should be a circle or a square. The hat will be a circle wrapped around itself to form a cone. Secure the ends of the circle together with a little craft glue.

3. Assemble your santa. You will need to glue the head to the top of the body marshmallow, and the body should be glued to the red construction paper base. Put Santa's hat on his head with more craft glue, and attach a white pompom to the top of the hat. Give everything about 20 minutes to dry.

4. Poke the red pipe cleaner through the red marshmallow. Keep pushing it through until about half of it is sticking out of each side. These are your Santa's arms. If you want, you can bend the pipe cleaner to form little hands.

5. Glue the foam tree to one of Santa's hands. You should let the tree rest on the construction paper base so that the Santa is not bearing the full weight of the tree, or he may tip over. Once everything is completely dry, you can hang your marshmallow Santa on the Christmas tree, use him as a place card holder or anything else that you want to do with your creation.

Tips & Warnings

• You can embellish your marshmallow Santas with little knitted caps, scarves and other accessories. You can even buy fake craft marshmallows if you want your creations to last forever.

• Once the marshmallows have been colored, do not eat them.
