Things You'll Need:
- Plywood
- Screws
- Power drill
-
Step 1
Take a piece of plywood or fiberboard and cut out a piece the same size as the space in your trunk. This piece of wood must be large enough to accommodate the amp, yet not so big that it won’t fit into your car’s trunk. Use the instructions and outline that come with the kicker amp that you have purchased as a guide and mark the correct spot on the plywood or fiberboard for the installation. Pre-drill the holes where the dimensions diagram tells you they should go to make the installation easier and prevent damage to the board.
-
Step 2
Spray-paint the board to which your kicker amp will be attached before you mount the amp. Cover the entire face of the mounting board with the paint and let it dry. Once the paint is dry, put a clear coat finish (also available in spray can form) over the spray paint and let it dry completely.
-
Step 3
Attach the kicker amp to the mounting board using half-inch wood screws. Make sure to use rubber washers on the screws for a secure fit and to prevent damage to the board.
-
Step 4
Mount the plywood or fiberboard to your trunk via the speaker box. Attach the plywood to the speaker box using four one-inch wood screws in each corner of the plywood to the back of your speaker box. Decide whether to leave the kicker amp mounting plywood or fiberboard as a floating board or use a power drill and one-inch metal screws to attach it to the bottom of your trunk. A floating mounting board is when you leave the mounting board unattached.
-
Step 5
Another way to mount your kicker amp in your car is by removing the passenger side seat in your car by pulling out the four bolts that hold your seat down. Make sure there are no electrical boxes or connections attached to the bottom of the seat, which there are in some newer vehicles. Take the kicker amp dimension diagram and plot out where the mounting holes should go and mark them out on the floor of your car in the middle of where the seat will be. Pre-drill holes into the car floor using a power drill and dispense a silicon based caulk into the holes you just pre-drilled, to prevent rusting. Attach the kicker amp with half-inch metal screws using rubber washers. Reattach the passenger seat the same way that you removed it and this installation is complete.
