1
Practice your writing. This is an important step in having better penmanship. Sit down and write out some simple words or letters. Evaluate what you think is wrong. Make the necessary changes.

2
Try different types of writing instruments. If you usually write with a regular thin pen, try a thicker pen or a calligraphy pen. They come in all shapes and sizes so you can find one that works for you. You can also try writing with a pencil, at least until you improve a bit.

Write on lined paper. You can use the lines to serve as a guide so you can keep your sentences in a straight line. Lined paper also helps you see where you need to adjust the size of your letters and words, either to make them larger or smaller. Also, it may even slow your writing speed down so that you can be more careful.

4
Change your grip. You may have been taught to hold a writing instrument a certain way all of your life, but this may not be the best way for you. Consider changing the way that you hold your pen or pencil. It may be more comfortable for you. As a result, your penmanship may start to improve.
