How to Tips for Storing Camping Equipment

While camping trips are fun, putting away and storing camping equipment isn't very enjoyable. If you follow the right steps though, storing camping equipment can be an easy process. When you take the proper measures to properly store your camping equipment, it will be in perfect condition when you need to use it again.

Things You'll Need:

• Broom
• Spray cleaner
• Towels or paper towels
• Large garbage bags or plastic tubs
• Washing machine and dryer

1. Sweep out your tent thoroughly. You need to ensure that you not only get all of the dirt out of the bottom of the tent, but also that you get any little crumb of food that might be in the tent as well.

2. Spray any food or drink spills that are in the tent with a commercial cleaner and dry it with a paper towel.

3. Air out your sleeping bags, or if they are dirty, place them into a large washing machine. It is best not to dry sleeping bags in a dryer, but you can hang them up outside to dry.

4. Wash and dry any blankets or other materials that you take with you on your regular camping trips. Even the slightest hint of food can attract bugs and rodents that could chew through your camping gear.

5. Clean tent spikes, shovels, cooking equipment and more with soap and water or spray cleaner and dry them thoroughly before putting them away.

6. Remove batteries from electronic camping supplies, such as flashlights, radios and electronic mapping devices. This will eliminate the risk of corrosion that might damage these devices.

7. Make a note of any items that needs to be repaired before your next trip, prior to storing them.

8. Dry all of your camping equipment off completely before storing it. If there is any moisture on your equipment, it could lead to mildew or damage should the moisture freeze on the item.

9. Place all of your camping equipment in the same location and store it in large garbage bags or plastic tubs.
