Things You'll Need:
- Bat
- Ball
-
Step 1
Get in your normal batting stance. As you wait for the ball to be thrown in your direction, make sure you are in your regular batting stance. This adds a certain amount of deceit to your approach by not letting the pitcher know that you intend to bunt. As the pitch is coming, square around by opening your stance. In so doing, you will be partially facing the pitcher. Additionally, make sure that you lower your stance a notch. It is easier to bring the bat back up than it is to lower it from a bunting position.
-
Step 2
Hold the bat. Proper holding of the bat requires the batter to place his top hand on the barrel of the bat, while leaving his other hand towards the bottom. When placing your top hand on the barrel of the bat, you have to use only your thumb and index finger. For safety, the thumb and index finger must be placed on your side of the bat. In other words, they should not be exposed to the pitcher.

Step 3
Make proper contact. Once the pitch is thrown, follow it to the bat with your eyes in order to make contact. Try not to lunge towards the ball. Rather, let it come to you. A good way of thinking about this technique is to try and catch the baseball with your bat.

Step 4
Run hard. Take nothing for granted in baseball. Once the ball is bunted, run as hard as you can towards first base.
