Children can create a donkey like Donkey from "Shrek" on a set of shrinky dink sheets. They can draw and color him in, then bake him in the oven. Turning the oven light on lets children watch in amazement as their donkey shrinks down to half the size.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Shrinky dink sheets
  • Cookie sheet
  • Pencil crayons
  • Scissors
  1. Step 1

Call your local craft stores to find out if they sell shrinky dink sheets. Not all of them do. If they don't, you can use the link below to buy shrinky dink sheets online.

  2. Step 2

Pull out one of the shrinky dink sheets. Feel both sides. One side will be rough and one will be smooth. Place the smooth side against your table so that you can draw on the rough side.

  3. Step 3

Use a gray pencil crayon to draw the outline of your donkey. Make the donkey big so that you can still see it when it shrinks. You can fit three to four donkeys on one sheet.

  4. Step 4

Color the rest of your donkey in with the pencil crayons. Feel free to give your donkey an outfit. You can also have your donkey carrying goods for its master.

  5. Step 5

Cut the donkey out with a pair of scissors. Leave a clear edge about 1/4 inch wide around the donkey. This will give the donkey room to shrink.

  6. Step 6

Preheat your oven to 325 degrees F.

  7. Step 7

Set the donkey or donkeys on a cookie sheet. Line them up in a row, but make sure they don't touch.

  8. Step 8

Put the donkeys in the oven for 1 minute.

  9. Step 9

Take the shrinky dink donkey out of the oven and give it some time to cool off.

Tips & Warnings
  • Punch a hole in your donkey with a hole puncher, then thread a piece of string through the hole and tie to form a necklace.
  • Cut a strip of magnet to stick on the back of your donkey and decorate your refrigerator with it.
  • Watch your shrinky dink in the oven at all times. It can burn in less than 2 seconds.
