Aluminum diamond plating is usually quick to get dirty and dim, especially the diamond plating on your truck bed or on your toolbox. It can look worn and dirty, but following a short process, you can make any kind of aluminum diamond plating look as good as new. Using Mothers to polish and wax it can make a noticeable difference. This is a cheap investment to improve the quality and look of your vehicle or other possession with diamond plating.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Steel wool
  • Lime-cleaning agent
  • Abrasive sponge
  • Mothers aluminum polish
  • Mothers aluminum wax
  1. Step 1

Scrub the plating thoroughly with steel wool. Try to get all residue and buildup off the metal. Take extra care to scrub out cracks and crevices.

  2. Step 2

Soak the surface with a lime-cleaning agent. Then use an abrasive sponge to scrub off any remaining residue. This should also help bring up any stains that are set into the aluminum.

  3. Step 3

Wash the plating with soap and water to remove remaining chemical and particles. This will also prep the surface to receive the polish.

  4. Step 4

Coat the surface with Mothers aluminum polish. Use a microfiber rag to rub it in. Work slowly and allow the polish to set up on the surface. Also, work with small areas at a time for a smoother polish and a more even coat.

  5. Step 5

Apply a coat of Mothers aluminum wax to the plating once the polish has fully dried. Be very careful when doing this and use extremely small amounts of wax at a time. To prevent spotting and streaking and keep the wax from building up on the texture edges, keep the wax layer as thin as possible. Rub out any streaks that begin forming.

  6. Step 6

Give the wax up to an hour to set up before handling.

Tips & Warnings
  • If possible, move the surface out of the sun before polishing.
  • Always use caution when working with toxic chemicals.
