How to Make a Shrinky Dink Crocodile

How to Make a Shrinky Dink Crocodile thumbnail
Crocodile

Crocodiles and alligators are similar creatures. They do have a few differences, however. For instance, alligators' teeth are not seen when the alligators mouth is closed. Crocodiles teeth stick out when their mouths are closed. Children can learn the difference between the two animals and then create their own Shrinky Dink crocodile. The crocodile will start out rather large, but end up super small.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Check with your area's craft shops to see if they sell Shrinky Dink sheets. If they don't, you can use the link below to visit the Shrinky Dink Store.

    • 2

Slide one Shrinky Dink sheet out from the package and set it in front of you with the rough side of the sheet facing up.

    • 3

Take out a green pencil crayon and draw the outline of a crocodile. Think about how big you want the crocodile to end up and make your crocodile twice that size.

    • 4

Color your crocodile in with the rest of your pencil crayons. You will mainly use green, brown, gray and black. Don't forget to give the crocodile teeth some color. White is the best color to use. If you want your crocodile to look like a cartoon character you can color an outfit on it.

    • 5

Turn the oven on and set the temperature to 325 degrees. The oven must be completely preheated before you begin.

    • 6

Cut your crocodile out while you wait for the oven to heat up. Use age-appropriate scissors so you don't get cut.

    • 7

Set your crocodile on a cookie sheet. If you have more than one crocodile you can lay them in a row, but don't let them touch each other.

    • 8

Put your cookie sheet in the oven and begin your timer. When it reaches 1 minute you need to remove the crocodile.

    • 9

Set your crocodile out to cool off before you use it.

Tips & Warnings

  • Punch a hole in your crocodile with a hole puncher. Then thread a piece of string through the hole and tie to form a necklace.

  • Cut a strip of magnet to stick on the back of your crocodile. Decorate your refrigerator with it.

  • Watch your shrinky dink in the oven at all times. It can burn in less than 2 minutes.
