Things You'll Need:
- Deck of cards
- 2 to 4 players
-
Step 1
Determine the order of play: Deal out cards, face up, until one player is dealt a jack. This player will act as the first dealer. Play will move to his left in a clockwise direction around the table.
-
Step 2
Deal out the deck until each player has a total of ten cards in their hands. Place the remaining cards at the center of the table to be used as the draw pile.
-
Step 3
Arrange your hand. In Oklahoma Gin, the goal is to create ranked sets (three to four cards of the same rank) and/or sequential runs (a run of three or more cards in chronological order within the same suit). Please note that you may try to collect more than one of each in you hand.
-
Step 4
Turn over the top card of the draw pile and place it next to the deck. This card sets the point limit for the unused cards you can have when you go out. For example: If the card turned is a five, you can go out with a total of five or fewer points in cards that aren't part of a ranked set or a sequential run (see the Tips section for the card values in the deck).
-
Step 5
Draw a card, starting with the person to the left of the dealer, from either the draw pile or the discard pile and add it to your hand. Remember, you are trying to create ranked sets and/or sequential runs.
-
Step 6
"Go out," if possible. A player goes out when she has valid ranked sets and/or sequential runs with no more unmatched points than the card turned in Step 4. If you can't go out, discard one unwanted card, face up, from your hand. After you discard, your turn is complete and play moves to your left.
-
Step 7
Continue to play as described until someone is able to go out.
-
Step 8
Tabulate the scores of your hand by adding up the value of those cards in valid ranked sets and sequential runs minus the value of any unused cards. If you have the lowest total amount within your unused cards, add an additional 15 points for the hand. If you are able to go Gin, add an additional 25 points.
-
Step 9
Play continues until one player hits at least a total of 150 points. The game ends, and this player is deemed the winner.
