How to Use AnchorFree to Secure Public Wi-Fi Connections

Anchorfree is a small javascript add-on that will allow you to surf the Web at public places without worrying about your privacy being compromised.

Instructions

1. Download the AnchorFree HotSpot Sheild installer from the official website. The file will be zipped, so you need to save the file on your desktop (see Resources below).

2. Unzip the file and run the AnchorFree Installer by double-clicking on it. You will have to accept the Terms of use, and click through a few messages. Once the installer is finished running, there will be an Icon on your desktop for AnchorFree Hotspot shield.

3. Open the AnchorFree hotspot shield by double-clicking on it. An Internet browser window will pop up and display your current connection status. If you are already connected to the Internet, AnchorFree will automatically disconnect you temporarily and then reconnect you securely. Make sure your browser allows Javascript.

4. Let it run in the background. AnchorFree will occasionally insert an ad-banner into your browsing session, but other than that you will not be able to notice it.

5. Disconnect from Anchor free. Once you are finished using the public Wi-Fi, mouse down to your taskbar and locate the green shield icon. Right-click it and hit "Disconnect."

Tips & Warnings

• Since AnchorFree is ad-supported, you will see a banner ad every half hour or so which will appear at the top of your browser. This is normal, and you can get rid of the ad by clicking on the close button at the bottom of the banner.

• Although AnchorFree enhances your public security, it is not a replacement for a traditional firewall.
