How to Beat "Super Mario Land" for Game Boy

"Super Mario Land" was one of the early Game Boy games. Below is a quick guide on what you need to do to get through the game's four worlds.

Instructions

    • 1

Jump up and hit all the blocks that you can. As is standard in Mario games, blocks contain items that will help you in your quest. Mushrooms make you large, allowing you to withstand two enemy hits before dying. Stars make you invincible for a short time. Flowers give you the ability to shoot superballs. Collect 100 coins and receive an extra life.

    • 2

Time the ladder stop in the bonus game for maximum efficiency. When you make it to the upper exit of each world, you can play the bonus game in which a ladder alternates between different levels of a girder. If you stop it at the level with the most extra lives (three is generally the maximum) you can climb up or down to that level to gain the most 1-ups.

    • 3

Master use of the superball. You can ricochet the balls off of obstacles to kill hard to reach enemies. You can also use them to collect coins by hitting them with the balls.

    • 4

Dash over falling blocks. In some parts of the game you will have to cross treacherous chasms in which the floor is falling out from below you. If you hold down the "B" button to dash over the blocks you will be OK.

    • 5

Dodge the Chikako sky mines when piloting the Sky Pop in the final stage. These mines take 10 hits to destroy so it's easier just to dodge them.

    • 6

Fire continuously at the final boss Tatanga with your Sky Pop while dodging its attacks up and down the screen.

Tips & Warnings

  • When invincible try to move as quickly as possible to move through the stage safely while you have the chance.
