Indoor tranquility fountains use the sound of moving water to create a relaxing and serene environment while also humidifying the air. This article provides instructions for building a table top tranquility fountain, but other ideas for indoor fountains include a lighted wall fountain, in which the water flows over a slate or granite slab, or a stand alone fountain with cascading bowls or tiers. Use your imagination when choosing materials for your table top fountain. Natural rocks, glass marbles, crystals, figurines, bamboo and plants are just a few of the options you might include in your fountain. You may also want to incorporate a sand garden or candles.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Flat-bottomed water-proof container
  • Submersible pump
  • Plastic tubing
  • Rocks
  • Marbles
  • Bamboo
  • Crystals
  • Tape
  • Scissors
  1. Step 1

Select a base container for your tranquility fountain. This container will need to have a flat bottom and be waterproof. It should be several inches deep. Some ideas for a container include a water tight wooden bowl, copper bowl, glass dish or a square planter.

  2. Step 2

Place the submersible pump, which can be found at nursery or aquarium supply stores, in your container. The best pumps will have suction cups to raise them from the floor of the container and keep them in place. Tape the pump’s cord down along the bottom of the container. Attach the plastic tubing to the top of the pump.

  3. Step 3

Add water to cover the pump’s intake valve and plug in the pump to test that it works properly. Unplug the pump before continuing.

  4. Step 4

Place a section of bamboo over the plastic tubing or you can simply hide it among rocks or other decorations. If using rocks, place the largest rocks at the bottom of your container and build a cascading mound around the plastic tuning. Cut the plastic tubing to desired height.

  5. Step 5

Add finishing touches of plants, figurines, crystals, a sand garden or candles if desired. Make sure any sand or candles are kept separate from the water flow. Plants that can be placed in the water can be found in the aquarium section of a pet store or you may want include a platform for a small bonsai tree or live bamboo shoots.

  6. Step 6

Plug in your fountain and enjoy the tranquility.

Tips & Warnings
  • Adjust the water level in your fountain as needed. A turkey baster can be used to remove excess water.
  • The pump will need to be removed, taken apart and cleaned every two to three months.
