Nothing can ever prepare a person for the moment a physician informs you of a serious illness. Actions made can not be taken away. The task at hand is to move forward. The following steps outline possible courses of action to be pursued in the event a serious illness is determined to be present.

  1. Step 1

    Make an inquiry to your physician for more information. Feel comfortable in requesting your physician make a referral to a specialist. Your physician will not be insulted by this request. A second opinion should be pursued before beginning any treatment or making life changing decisions.

  2. Step 2

    Explore what avenues of treatment are available. Holistic medications can be of assistance in treatment of some ailments. Acupuncture is another example of a non traditional form of treatment. There are many other options available which are to numerous to list. Discuss any treatment received or contemplated with primary physician.

  3. Step 3

    Trials and studies are conducted to test new options for treatment. Depending on your condition and level of comfort this may be an option for you. Discuss this option with primary physician prior to participating in a trial or study. Your primary physician needs to be aware of any factors which may impair or enhance your current health status.

on 10/23/2008 Wonderful tips. I know when my mother was diagnosed with Breast Cancer it knocked the wind out of me momentarily. She even continued to take this vitamin supplement called Noni Juice. It helped her recover from chemo and radiation alot quicker than others. She doesn't have most of the side effects either. I'm a big advocate of holistic, homeopathic, or natural remedies. :o)
