Step 1
Check craigslist.org frequently. A recent check of the "Free" section in the DC Metro area at craigslist.org, yielded not only free computers offerings, but printers, and home office furniture as well. This is an easy way to get a computer free.
-
Step 2
Look in your yellowpages for recycling centers. Many recycling centers in an effort to eliminate e-waste (electronic waste) give away computers or sell them for a small fee.
-
Step 3
If the computers are for a non-profit organization or school, check out cristina.org, recycles.org and sharetechnology.org. These organizations match donors of used computer equipment with nonprofits and schools that need them.
-
Step 4
Do a google search in your state and county with the words "Free Computer My Location" (fill in your location). Some counties have special opportunities for free computers. One county was offering the free home use of a computer to seniors. A PA county currently offers free computers to low income families.
-
Step 5
If you have a disability go to sharetechnology.com and email them with details to see if you qualify for a computer free through their recycling services.
-
Step 6
Check out www.homeschool555.com for the loan of a computer free (refundable $100 deposit) if you homeschool your children.
-
Step 7
Let your family and friends know you would love to find a computer. They may have one they are not using and give you the computer free!

on 10/23/2008 You should also check and see if there is a freecycle list in your area. I have seen computers on ours off and on.
