While this is unlikely in a home environment, if someone was really driven to catch you, they might install a keylogger program or physical keylogger device. Check the program files for any suspicious programs. Also make sure there's no unusual devices attached to your computer.
Similar to keyloggers are screen capture programs that take pictures of what's displayed on the screen every few seconds. Make sure your computer is clear of these before browsing for porn.
Windows doesn't really delete files when you click "Delete." It just marks that space as open for writing new data to, meaning everything you just deleted can easily be recovered with free data recovery programs. Download a free data shredder such as Eraser (see the resources below). After it's installed, right-click on your computer's main drive and select "Erase Unused Space." Depending on what option you select, it will overwrite the unused space on your hard drive 1, 3, 7, or 35 times.
If You Get Caught Option 1: If the person who caught you isn't very tech savvy, blame it on spyware and viruses that automatically load pop-up ads and download porn to your computer.
If You Get Caught Option 2: If the person who caught you isn't very tech savvy, and you're using an open wireless LAN connection, say that someone else must be using the connection. Somehow, spyware and viruses must have traveled from their computer to yours.
If You Get Caught Option 3: If you have anti-virus and anti-spyware, aren't using a wireless LAN, and the person who caught you is only moderately tech savvy, say you just downloaded a compressed freeware program which, when extracted, automatically installed viruses and spyware into the boot sector of the disk. When you restarted the computer, they loaded before the anti-virus and anti-spyware could load, so the viruses and spyware were able to disable portions of the anti-virus and anti-spyware, allowing the viruses and spyware to download porn and produce porn pop-ups.
For more computer tips, check the Resources section.
If you look at porn on a company computer that's part of a network, there's little you can do to prevent them from logging and permanently saving visited sites in a place you can't get to. Look at your own risk!
If you use an internet filtering program that blocks porn sites, even if you bypass this, sites you visit may still be logged. Make sure you delete these if possible.
Try to think of any program that might store visited websites or recently opened documents. If you viewed an image in Photoshop, make sure you clear the file name from the list. If your anti-virus and anti-spyware log URLs, delete them as well.
Use the excuses in the tips section at your own risk--note this article isn't in the Relationships & Family section!

on 4/12/2009 also you should set your computer to view hidden files and folders and then go to my computer->main hard drive->documents and settings->your user acount->local settings(this one is hiddent)->history. it has all the places youve been to and firefox doesnt erase it. you can. then go up one folder and go to recent. this also keeps all the shortcuts to files youve used recently. delete the contents. this should make your computer free of any traces

on 11/13/2008 Yes, TV is much safer. If it's a movie, just make sure you don't leave a disc where anyone can see it--it's harder to convince someone a virus in your brain forced you to watch it o_O
