Depression may signal a vitamin deficiency.
Depression may signal a vitamin deficiency.

You know what it feels like. It hurts. Depression causes physical as well as mental and emotional pain and everyone who is close to you, can suffer. Interestingly enough, vitamins may be just the ticket for treating occasional depression.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Take 300 micrograms of Biotin, per day, for at least 6-weeks to see if you experience a lasting mood change. A biotin deficiency results in depression in many people. Avoid eating raw eggs if you experience biotin-related depression, as it will leach the vitamin from your body.

  2. Step 2

Choose a good B-Complex vitamin to combat chronic depression if there is no visible cause for your feelings. Vitamin B6, Pyridoxine, increases the production of the mood-elevating chemical in your brain called serotonin.

  3. Step 3

Try a sublingual B12 vitamin when you need a little pep-me-up. No more than twice a day, you may put a sublingual B12 under your tongue.

  4. Step 4

Make sure you're not anemic. Anemia sufferers also experience chronic depression. 20 mg a day is a sufficient dosage for an adult. Consult a doctor before giving iron to children.

  5. Step 5

Increase your intake of fatty acids to fight depression. Low-fat diets may not provide all the fatty acids necessary to keep your brain in top shape. This is known as the Yin and Yang effect of balancing nutrients to overcome depression.

Tips & Warnings
  • Contact a mental health professional if your depression continues or worsens.
