Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Begin with a small box. Starting any cleaning project can be overwhelming when you look at the big picture. One small box and fifteen minutes of your time is all that you need to begin a wonderful journey to energetic freedom.

You must first determine what constitutes clutter. In Feng Shui, clutter is defined as anything that; you haven't used in the past 12 months, that you don't absolutely love, unorganized papers or magazines, clothing that does not fit, projects left unfinished, or items in need of repair. Once you recognize what your clutter issue may be it is time to move on to step 2.

  2. Step 2

Pick a closet, drawer, or area of a room that you would like to clear out first. Take your box and time yourself. Allow 15 minutes to fill the box with the things that you are choosing to let go of. After 15 minutes, STOP.

The best way to stay motivated and excited about your cleaning journey is to not overwhelm yourself in any one session.

  3. Step 3

Once you clear even the smallest area you have begun to open up your energy flow. By the time you have completed a few of your 15 minute sessions it is likely that you will be energized and ready to take on an even larger project. Now is the time to get the family involved.

Assign each family member one box to fill and enlist their aid in sorting through different areas of the house. It is fun and rewarding to see the progress that everyone makes when pulling together to accomplish a task.

  4. Step 4

Once you have accomplished the task of boxing or bagging up your clutter determine where these items should go. Consider donating any usable items to your nearest shelter or church or pass items along to friends or family who can utilize them. Another option is the good old fashioned yard sale.

  5. Step 5

Reward yourself and your family for a job well done by splurging on a special treat! It is even more fun if you reward yourselves using the proceeds from your yard sale!

Enjoy your new clutter free home, and notice how much lighter and happier the entire environment feels!

Tips & Warnings
  • To begin a large task break it into small less daunting segments.
  • Enlist your family's assistance by working toward a fun reward.
