Shawls are wonderful for spring and fall, and when you knit your own they can coordinate with your wardrobe! They also make fantastic gifts!

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Size 13 straight needle
  • 3-4 balls of chunky weight yarn (Lion Homespun works wonderful)
  • Crochet needle
  • Tapesty needle or yarn needle
  • Basic knowledge of knitting
  1. Step 1

Start by casting on 4 stitches. This will be the very tip of your shawl.

  2. Step 2

    Row 1: Knit across
Row 2 and All following rows: Knit 2, yarn over, knit across.

Repeat Row 2 until the shawl is the desired length\width. Bind off. Weave in ends.

  3. Step 3

Once your shawl is finished, a nice touch is to add some fringe!

Take your remaining yarn and wrap it around a thick book or a DVD case. Cut the end attached to the actual ball of yarn, then using sharp scissors, cut the yarn wrapped around the DVD\book down the middle. This creates a bunch of tassles of the same length.

  4. Step 4

Starting at one edge of the shawl, fold 1-2 tassels in half and pull the loop end of those tassels through the hole made by your yarn over at the edge of the shawl (you'll see them!). Using a crochet hook works well for this. Once the loop has been pulled through, pull the tail (the other end) of the tassel through the loop, making a knot, and VIOLA! You have wonderful fringe on the edge of your shawl!

Tips & Warnings
  • You can add as many tassels through one loop as you like, but try not to add too many because it can pull the shawl down and make it look akward.
