How to Knit A Simple Baby Blanket

This simple baby blanket is knit the same way as a simple dishcloth, making it easy for even the novice knitter and makes a GREAT gift!

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Size 13 long straight needles
  • 3 balls of chunky weight yarn (Lion Homespun is great)
  • Tapestry needle
  • Basic knitting skills
  1. Step 1

    Cast on 4 stitches.

    Row 1: Knit across
    Row 2: Knit 2, yarn over, knit across.

    Repeat row 2 until the blanket is HALF of the desired length, switching to circular needles if you have to. Around 100 stitches will make a good size play blanket.

  2. Step 2

    After you've repeated row 2 until the blanket is HALF your desired length, you'll start the decreasing:

    Knit 1, knit 2 together, yarn over, knit 2 together, knit across.

    Repeat this sequence on every row until you have only 4 stitches left on your needle. Bind off and weave in ends!

Tips & Warnings
  • You can use other chunky weight yarns or a mix of two different colors, just hold two yarns together and make sure to decrease the largest number of stitches.
