How to start running/jogging for the first time
Need to lose weight or get healthy? Ever had the urge to start running/jogging, but didn't know where to start? Here are a few tips from a girl who hated to run, but was determined to lose weight.

Go for a short brisk walk to warm up your muscles

Do some light stretches

Pick a goal down the street or trail (like a stop sign or specific tree) and make this goal just a little further than you would like.

Run or jog to your goal (not too fast) and then walk a short distance (and repeat)

Keep extending your goal distance until you are running or jogging more comfortably and no longer need to walk in between segments. (don't rush this step - it could take you several weeks or more before you feel comfortable running or jogging for a longer period of time)
Tips & Warnings
Use good running shoes
Running/jogging is fun with a partner
Keep your running or jogging pace at a level you can carry a short conversation.
Don't rush step 6 - if you do - you may not enjoy running or jogging for the long haul and not stick with it.
Make sure you are ok'd by a doctor before you begin any exercise program.
