Central Vacuum Hose
Central Vacuum Hose

Often central vacuum owners think their system is clogged, when the real culprit is their central vacuum hose. Follow these simple instructions to identify an obstruction in your hose and unclog it.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • A broom handle
  • A plumber's snake
  1. Step 1

Take your central vacuum hose and connect it directly to the dirt canister. After turning on the vacuum if the hose has normal suction here then the clog exists in your tubing. Check out our eHow article on unclogging a central vacuum system.

  2. Step 2

If you do experience reduced suction directly at the canister then you can be fairly certain your hose is clogged.

  3. Step 3

Plug hose in reverse into the inlet located on your unit and turn on the system. This should aspirate the clog.

  4. Step 4

Or, remove the hose from inlet and push a broom handle through the hose.

  5. Step 5

Finally, when all else fails, get a plumbers snake and run it through your hose.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you have an electric central vacuum hose, exercise caution as you do not want to damage the electrical wiring of the hose.
