Boundaries define who we are and what we will tolerate. Setting boundaries frees us to live our lives to the fullest and enjoy our life.

Things You'll Need:

  • Determination
  • Boundaries (this book is optional but very helpful)
  1. Step 1

Setting proper boundaries define who and what sort of person we are. Are you the type of person that lets everyone direct you? or do you seem to be in control?

Set a boundary that allows you the freedom to enjoy your family life. It is okay to allow your answering machine to get the phone if you are busy with your family. It is okay to go to lunch and not feel obligated to run errands and be there for everyone else.

Setting proper boundaries helps us to function better as a person.

  2. Step 2

Often times other can be very intrusive. Whether its your parents visiting unannounced (while you have many things to get done) or the neighbor that drops in unannounced.

Try practicing some boundary setting here: "I really appreciate your visit but I am so sorry, I have other obligations right now. Perhaps we could re schedule this for a better time". You have stated the facts and you do not need to feel guilty for someone else being so intrusive.

  3. Step 3

Setting boundaries gives us the freedom to live our lives on our terms. We don't have to feel guilty for not being there at the drop of a hat for everyone. By setting a precedence we are allowing ourselves a freedom that a lack of boundaries prevents.

You've heard the saying before, "Just say NO". Its very simple. No strings attached. No guilt attached. No means NO and it doesn't require an explanation.

God, Family and boundaries all go together hand in hand.
