Scene Girls are a new phenomena. Stylish, intelligent, witty and wise, these teenage girls know about style, art and etiquette. While they might be emotionally in touch with reality, they're definitely NOT the emo-girls they're mistaken for.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Your own Myspace Page
  • A cool Scene Girl Haircut
  • A little more black eye makeup than your mom approves of
  • A quick sense of humor
  • Common courtesy and Social Skills
  • Bold personal Fashion
  1. Step 1

Build a Myspace page and fill it with your favorite songs. Scene girls like music thats sensitive, sing-along and a little on the wild side. For a background, choose dark florals that border on the gothic side, or bright hippy patterns or anything you love. Puppies and kittens are to be avoided, but real looking fairies and unicorns aren't as bad.

  2. Step 2
    Getting the Scene Girl Haircut
    Getting the Scene Girl Haircut

Get the Scene Girl haircut. If your stylist doesn't know what it is, go somewhere else. If you're brave you could do it yourself. Believe it or not, it's this easy. Start with a long version like this: Make a ponytail directly behind your ears. Pull the rubber band out so that it stands about 5 inches away from your head. Chop. They're called choppy for a reason. When the hair falls into layers, you'll have the shorter ones in the back and the longer ones in the front with some longer wispy pieces around the front and the nape of the neck. If the top layer is a bit thick for you, lift it straight up into a mohawk and chop a few random chunks into it (not shorter than 4 inches from the scalp) Once you get the hang of it, you can go shorter. Cutting hair isn't rocket science.

Bleach a few chunks of your hair until they turn pale yellow and then add a bright colored dye. You can make a homemade bright dye that only works on bleached hair by mixing kool-aid with a teeny bit of water and hydrogen peroxide until it makes a paste. Leave it on for 5 minutes, then shampoo and blow-dry. If it's not bright enough, do it again.

  4. Step 4

Be compassionate. Scene girls aren't bullies. Everyone has feelings. When you get to know the people who are hard to reach, it's like finding hidden treasure. Scene girls are the ones everyone wants to be friends with, because they're bold and intelligent. Scene girls sometimes call each other rude names, but it's meant with love. If someone is smiling and saying it, they mean well.

  5. Step 5
Scene Girls Wear Only the Sleek Remnants of the Past, Skinny Jeans are a Good Thing

Research the fashions of the 80's (except the puffy sleeves and giant hair bows) because that side ponytail, those black and white stripes, black rubber bracelets, kooky leg warmers and bright colors define a scene girl's style. She's everything FUN about the last 30 years all rolled into one. Part punk, part retro and facing the future.

Tips & Warnings
  • use really bright eye shadow colors, nothing brown or boring
  • Thrift Shop it, skip the department store's "Scene Girl" display unless you want to look like a poser. Real Scene Girls are unique.
