Things You'll Need:
- green felt
- soft thin elastic
- sewing supplies or glue gun
-
Step 1
Make the stem: Cut a strip of green felt 1 inch wide and 9 inches long. Roll it up and sew or glue together.
-
Step 2
leaf patternLeaves: pumpkin leaves are round but a round shape doesn't look very "leafy". I made three holly shaped leaves about four inches long. Attach the leaves to the bottom of the stem arranging them like the spokes of a wheel with one end completely under the stem.
-
Step 3
Vines: give the hat some character by attaching thin spirals of felt for vines. Cut them a quarter of an inch wide or less and perhaps 14 inches long. attach one end near the stem. Curl them in a spiral around your finger and attach the bottom of the coils to a leaf.
-
Step 4
Place the hat on your child or baby and measure from one side under her chin around to the other side. Stretch the elastic the slightest bit and cut this measurement plus 1 inch. This allows for a half inch seam allowance on each side. The slight stretch will mean the hat is tight enough to stay on without being uncomfortable.
