Want to save the earth and save money? Going green is the new craze to save mother earth with the added benefit of saving some cash. This article will give you some tips to head on your way towards going green.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Replace your light bulbs with compact fluorescent bulbs. Each bulb you change can save you up to $25 a year.

  2. Step 2

Buy thermal drapes. Thermal drapes will help keep your house cool in the summer and warm in the winter. Also try turning off your AC when you can and opening your windows.

  3. Step 3

Reuse old water bottles and soda bottles. Just finished that refreshing coke in a bottle? Rinse it out and fill it with water and take it to the gym the next time you head out. If a bottle is past its time then recycle it. Recycling is a great way to go green and help the environment.

  4. Step 4

Join your local Free Cycle group. Free Cycle are online communities where you can post items that you want to get rid of. If you see something someone else is getting rid of that you want you can fire them an email and snatch it up. Instead of filling up the landfills you can take advantage of the old saying "one man's trash is another man's treasure".

  5. Step 5

Carpool! Gas prices are through the roof right now and going green can save you loads of money. If you can find a coworker that lives near you or if a family member works near you and you can coordinate schedules then take advantage of riding together. You will be cutting down on pollution and also saving some gas money!

on 10/21/2008 Great ideas, I just hope being green is not just a craze. I hadn't thought of the thermal drapes, we usually use shrink rap window plastic in the winter, to keep out the drafts. I might look into the thermal drapes and see how affordable they are.
