How to Get Someone to Like You thumbnail
Get others to like you by finding things you share in common.

People are often drawn to those with whom they share things, opinions, hobbies and experiences in common. As such, if you want to get someone to like you, you will need to discover common topics and issues. You must do this whether you are trying to get someone to like you in a romantic, professional or friendly sense.

Instructions

Ask questions. The easiest way to get someone to open up to you is to ask her questions about themselves. You may ask where she grew up and how many siblings she has, for example. Or, you can ask about her hobbies. Asking about a movie will help open up a conversation about the types of movies she enjoys. For example, you might ask, "Have you seen that new movie yet?" This can lead to a conversation about her interests.

Provide details about yourself that are both similar and different from what you know about her. If she grew up with five brothers, for instance, use this as an opportunity to discuss your four sisters. This can lead to a conversation about your experiences with your siblings. You may find that you have even more in common beyond the surface details about one other.

Spend time together. Go out on casual or informal dates. If you are headed for lunch, ask if he would like to come along. Or, if you have to run an errand, ask casually if he would like to join you. These are great opportunities to spend time together without the pressure of a date.

Be helpful. Offer to assist the other person once in a while. This can include offering her a ride home or helping her finish a project. Do something as simple as helping to carry a heavy bag. The more she sees that you care about her well-being, the more likely she is to like you.

Tips & Warnings

  • Do not force yourself on someone if she is unresponsive to your gestures to become friends. If you are aggressive, this can cause her to reject you even more.
