Cut An Onion Without Crying
Cut An Onion Without Crying

Learn a surefire way to cut onions without crying.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • onion
  • sharp knife
  • gas stove
  1. Step 1

Gather the onions that you are going to be chopping.

  2. Step 2

Arrange the onions on a cutting board as close to your gas stove as possible.

  3. Step 3

Turn on one or two gas burners and leave them on while you are chopping. The flame will absorb and burn off the agents in the onion that are released when you chop it and cause tearing.

  4. Step 4

Turn off the burners once you are finished chopping the onions.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you have an electric stove, try lighting a few candles (one isn't enough) near the place you will be cutting the onions.

on 10/22/2008 Fire therapy! I love it. I always put then under the faucet (water therapy), but that can be tricky! This is better. Thanks.
