Study For Any Math Test
Study For Any Math Test

Studying for a math test isn't like studying for an social studies or literature test. Read on for some math test study tips.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Math book
  • Old homework
  • Pencil
  • Paper
  1. Step 1

Review your homework. Evaluate any questions you missed to determine where you made mistakes so you won't make them on the test.

  2. Step 2

Crack open your math book. Look at the end of the chapter for study questions.

  3. Step 3

Complete the study questions without a calculator. Write out your work. Check your answers with those in the back of the book. If you completed a problem incorrectly, find your mistake and your way to the correct answer.

  4. Step 4

Be sure to skim the chapter for vocabulary words you'll need to know like "axis" "radius" and "circumference". Make flash cards to teach yourself each word's meaning if you are unfamiliar with the vocabulary terms.

  5. Step 5

Read the chapter summary if provided. This is a short version of the major concepts in the chapter.

  6. Step 6

The night before the test, get a good night's rest (at least 8 hours). Eat a healthy breakfast the morning of the test to have your brain working in tip-top condition.

Tips & Warnings
  • Begin studying a few days before the test - don't cram at the last minute.
  • Vocabulary words are normally shown in bold font in the book.
  • When "showing your work" be neat and organized. Make your numbers legible.
  • Ask for help from a parent, other student or your teacher if you don't understand a concept.

on 10/20/2008 I was a math tutor when my children were small. Very good advice. But I would add going over your class notes before the test.
