Change Ball-Jointed Doll Eyes

One of the most rewarding aspects of owning an Asian ball-jointed doll is the ability to customize it. An easy way to make your doll more unique is to change the eyes that came with it. Whether your eyes are a vibrant new color or even a different size, you will be able to enjoy your doll's new look.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • ball-jointed doll
  • doll eyes
  • eye putty
  • hair dryer
  • butter knife
  1. Step 1

Buy a new pair of eyes for your Asian ball-jointed doll. Doll eyes come in a range of colors, as well as the option of having a different color pupil or no pupil at all. You could also buy bigger eyes for a more anime-like look or smaller eyes for a more realistic look.

  2. Step 2

Be aware that doll eyes come in different materials including acrylic, silicone, glass, and urethane in order of general price range.

  3. Step 3

Once you have your eyes, open the head cap on the back of your doll's head and remove the old eyes. If the eyes are hot glued into the head, soften the glue with a low heat hair dryer and then gently pry it out with a butter knife.

  4. Step 4

Position your new eyes in the eyeholes the way you want them to look. The most common positions are looking forward, glancing sideways, and looking upwards.

  5. Step 5

Stick the eyes in place with the eye putty, making sure that enough putty is used so the eye will not slip out of place.

  6. Step 6

Check the position of the eyes one final time and be sure that your doll isn't cross-eyed or wall-eyed.

  7. Step 7

Replace the head cap and wig and enjoy the new look you have given to your Asian ball-jointed doll.

Tips & Warnings
  • Some eye size combinations that you think will look great may actually just give your doll a frightening look. If you change the size of their eyes, do so with this in mind.
  • If you are using a hair dryer to remove hot glue from your doll's eyeholes, make sure it is on low heat and only use it for a short amount of time. Otherwise you could damage your doll or their eyes.
