Use Your Home Office: Your Key To Success!
Use Your Home Office: Your Key To Success!

Sometimes us moms get so caught up in the idea of working from home that we inadvertently overlook the fact that once we do find our perfect at-home position, we may not have a place to actually do the work. Or, we make the mistake of thinking that we can do it on the couch or from the dining room table while the family goes on about life as usual. Then, we get the job and find out real quickly that we were very, very wrong.

The point is, work is work. It is extremely important that we realize what we are getting ourselves into before we get the job if are going to succeed at home. This includes deciding where we are going to do our work.

Below are a few tips to find the perfect spot for your home-based office.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

If You Have the Room, Use It

If you have a spare room in your house, obviously this is the best choice to set up your home-based office. But, if you aren’t fortunate enough to have an extra room, there are options that will work. As long as you dedicate that space specifically to your job and nothing else, you can have a successful small office in a limited amount of space.

  2. Step 2

    When Quiet is Necessary

Another thing that you must take into consideration is what type of work you will be doing from home. If most of your job entails phone work, it is imperative that you find a place in your home that is quiet and can be shut off from the rest of the house when need be. You may want to consider converting an old closet or even a corner of your bedroom to office space. If the work entails mostly using the computer, it can be completely acceptable to put a desk in the family room or work from your laptop at the dining room table. An office doesn’t need to be huge, but it does need to be a usable space.

  3. Step 3

    Control the Clutter

Keeping only the essentials around and making sure your space is clutter free will also help keep you in work mode. Just remember that an office doesn’t need to be huge, but it does need to be a usable space that has the capacity to handle the work load. Once you have that, you will find that it is much easier to make the transition to working from home.

Tips & Warnings
  • While there may be some obstacles along the way, as long as your work space is accessible, comfortable and practical, with a little ingenuity and proper planning, just about any spot in your home can become a fully functioning home office.
