This will be how to create a left hand single crochet.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Crochet Hook
  • Scissors
  • Tapestry Needle
  • Yarn
  1. Step 1

    Left Hand crochet is done in the opposite direction as the right hand counterpart. You will be crocheting in the direction to the right.

  2. Step 2

    Crochet Abbreviations are an important part of crochet when reading a crochet pattern.
    Single Crochet = SC
    Chain = CH/CH's

  3. Step 3

    Make a chain of 15.

  4. Step 4

    You will be making 14 single crochet on your chain foundation. The first chain will be used as a step to make your single crochet on the first row. Each crochet stitch has a different amount of chains that are required to get up to the first row. The single crochet only requires 1 chain to get up to the next row.

  5. Step 5

    Insert your hook through the second chain from the hook.

  6. Step 6

    Wrap the yarn over your hook.

  7. Step 7

    Pull the yarn through the chain.

  8. Step 8

    You have two loops on your hook.

  9. Step 9

    Wrap the yarn over your hook.

  10. Step 10

    Pull through both loops on your hook.

  11. Step 11

    You have completed your first single crochet.

  12. Step 12

    For the next single crochet and remaining stitches on the foundation, insert your hook in the next foundation chain.

  13. Step 13

    Repeat steps 4-10 until you have 14 single crochet complete.

  14. Step 14

    For the next row, you will chain 1, then turn.

  15. Step 15

    There are two loops at the top of the single crochet that you made in the previous row. You can go through the front loop, back loop or both. These instructions will be telling how to go through both loops.

  16. Step 16

    You will insert your hook below the two strands of yarn at the top of the stitch.

  17. Step 17

    Wrap the yarn over your hook.

  18. Step 18

    Pull the yarn through.

  19. Step 19

    You will have two loops on your hook.

  20. Step 20

    Wrap the yarn over your hook.

  21. Step 21

    Pull through both loops on your hook.

  22. Step 22

    Chain 1 and turn for each new row you will be completing.

  23. Step 23

    Repeat steps 15-21 for the remaining stitches in the row.

  24. Step 24

    Once your length is complete, cut your yarn and pull the tail through the loop to secure the stitch.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you are familiar with picture symbol crochet patterns, set your printer/copy machine to mirror mode. Your symbol instructions will be facing in the right direction for a left hand crocheter.
  • Don't be afraid to try something new.
