Things You'll Need:
- wood
- open container
- moss
-
Step 1
You can build yourself an outdoor divider by getting two square posts and about 25 slates. The posts are 2' X 8' and you will be placing them about 4 feet from each other. Pour cement around the bottom of the post to make them secure. Add wooden slates or thin pieces of wood that are about 6 feet long and attach them horizontally from one end of the post to the other. You want to be able to hang your aerial garden from the slates and you can also hang regular potted plants.
-
Step 2
Now you are ready to add your aerial plants. A true aerial garden has epiphytic plants, like an orchid, staghorn and bromeliads. These plants are commonly known as air plants. The plant gets it's nutrients from the air and will grow on the bark of a tree or on moss. You have probably seen these plants at the store that are not in pots but are attached to a piece of bark. Add these plants and also other potted plants that are in baskets.
-
Step 3
You can take the hook that is on the back of the epiphytic plants and hang it from the slates of your outdoor room divider. You can arrange them anyway that you want and make a striking display, and also creating privacy in your backyard.
-
Step 4
You can also put your epiphytic plant that is not already attached to bark and create a home for it by putting it in a hanging basket. The basket should be made of wood and have openings that air can get through or you can use a wire basket that is open and line the bottom of the basket with moss to make it look prettier. You can hang the plant on your outdoor divider or from your patio cover. See my article on How to Take Care of Epiphytic Plants to learn how to keep your plants healthy.
