Step 1
First find your local housing authority. Housing Authority addresses and phone numbers should be listed in your telephone book under county government.
-
Step 2
Apply at the housing authority in the county in which you want to live. Each county has their own housing authority.
-
Step 3
There is always a waiting list and it would be wise to always keep your current address up to date with them after you have applied.
-
Step 4
The wait may take many years before they contact you. That is why you have to keep your current address up to date with them.
-
Step 5
Once they contact you by mail, an appointment will be made with you.
-
Step 6
At your appointment you will find out what the maximum rent allowable is for you and how many bedrooms your house can be.
-
Step 7
They will then give you a voucher and give you a certain amount of time to find a place to live, usually a couple of months.
-
Step 8
Would be best to hurry though because after a couple extensions, if you still don't find a place to live then will kick you off the program and you will need to start all over from the waiting list process.
