Save time by using rules to filter your incoming email.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • computer
  • outlook
  1. Step 1

    From your Inbox in Microsoft Outlook
    Go to Tools and then Rules and Alerts

  2. Step 2
     

    Click on New Rule
    Select creating a rule from a template
    Select Move messages from someone to a folder

  3. Step 3

    Edit rule description (click an underlined value)
    People or distribution list (this brings up the global e-mail list)

  4. Step 4

    Type in the name of the person's that you want to filter:
    You can filter as many people as you want
    Click on move it to a specified folder

  5. Step 5

    Select or create a new folder
    Type in the name you want the folder to have and hit OK

  6. Step 6

    Click Finish
    Click on Run Rules Now
    Check the box of the rule you want to run
    In the Run in Folder Click Browse

  7. Step 7

    Select Your Inbox
    Click OK and then Run Now

  8. Step 8

    The new rule will run through your Inbox looking for all messages from the person's you want to filter and place them in the new folder you created.
    The rule will also sort them as they arrive.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you have the reading pane selected you can read the body of the e-mail without opening it to determine if the new document or release applies to you.
