Instructions

    • 1

Choose your color. Light colors and pastels will help a small room look bigger. Whereas, darker colors, particularly with wood accents can help a room look more sophisticated.

    • 2

Pick the right paint. Glossy finishes are long lasting and easy to clean. Unfortunately, they also show any flaws on the wall or in the paint job. Flat paint is very forgiving with imperfections and cheaper than other paints. The downfall of flat paint is that it is harder to maintain and keep clean. For the best of both worlds, opt for a semi-gloss paint.

    • 3

Remove all furnishing and cover the floor with a tarp or cloth. Mask off windows, around base boards and then clean the wall with a sponge or cloth and warm water.

    • 4

Cover any stains or discolored areas with a paint primer or sealant. Otherwise, dark spots and stains will bleed through your new paint job.

    • 5

Start painting around the edges of the wall and around windows with a paint brush. Be sure to paint the top of the wall near the ceiling as well. Much like a border, this will prevent any mishaps and smudges when you begin painting with the roller.

    • 6

Load your paint roller and start painting in one corner of the wall. Roll upwards and outwards much like a fan. Slightly overlap the edges of previous strokes with each new pass. Apply a second coat after the wall is completely dried if desired.

Tips & Warnings

  • Don't load your roller with too much paint.

  • Make sure the room is well ventilated.
