Things You'll Need:
- Printer ink refill kit
- Used HP 22 printer ink cartridge
- Electric drill
- Household tape
- Old newspapers
- Paper towels
-
Step 1
Place the empty ink into a vise attached to a workbench or table top. Do not tighten the vise, use just enough pressure to hold the cartridge upright.
-
Step 2
Remove the top of the cartridge by grabbing the sides of the top with a pair of vise gripes and carefully loosen the top with a gentle rocking motion.
-
Step 3
Fill the ink applicator which comes in the refill kit with the desired color.
-
Step 4
Remove the cartridge from the vise and place it head down onto a thick stack of paper towels.
-
Step 5
Fill the cartridge with ink by inserting the applicator tip into the sponge located inside the chamber of the ink cartridge. Inject the ink into the sponge slowly, a few CCs at a time. Change to position of the applicator from time to time to insure that the sponge becomes evenly saturated.
-
Step 6
Stop applying the ink to the sponge when the top of the sponge begins to look wet. Do not overfill the ink cartridge. This only wastes ink and may damage the cartridge. If you do add too much ink, simply use the applicator to remove the ink from the cartridge.
-
Step 7
Snap the top of the ink cartridge back into place. Apply a piece of tape to hold the top in place.
-
Step 8
Hold the cartridge in your hand and gently blot the excess ink run off until it stops. This may take up to a half hour if the cartridge has been overfilled.
-
Step 9
Insert the cartridge into the printer. Allow the cartridge to stand for 24 hours.
-
Step 10
Print a test page. Adjust your printer’s ink settings if necessary by following the printer’s software instructions.
